Week 3 : FeedMyInbox - RSS made simple

I created my account first with RSS feed and I watched the Video provided. It asked me to Subscribe to some feeds. I was able to subscribe to Manukau Libraries & Auckland City libraries blog. It asked me for few options when I was subscribing for Auckland City ibraries. I have subscribed to couple of my favourite movie sites. I can select what I want. I will be happy to promote it to my customers as customers can feed a lot of free sites and can have information available whenever they will go on to computer.

Week 2 : Picapp - the best images for your blog

I found this post quite easy and interesting.We only have to find the picture on Picapp and simply copy the embed code and paste in my blog post. From the topics I have chosen Travel and i been to desert place last year and it remind me how it look like to be there. I never used this site for downloading pictures before and when I explored the site, it was interesting to know how many pictures we can download for free from Picasa web site. It will be very useful to promote to our customers.

Week 1 : Box.net - online file storage

When I looked at this, It seemed new to me. I created my account and I had problem Uploading files but Tosca's email about Technical Hitch was useful and I made my way arround the Box.net. I had some shared files on my Box.net account. But wonderful thing about it as We can save any documents from our PC and open that document anywhere else. I will be very happy to share my knowledge of Box.net with customers in the Learnnet as sometime customers have nothing to save their documents and they can save on Box.net and can open any other time when they want to be.

Final Post

So I've done the survey and this is my final task.

Overall I've found web 2.0 interesting. The last web 2.0 was OK but this timeI found web 2.0 quite easier than last time The least enjoyable tasks were Music files andMP3.I found Zamzar very handy. Best ones were Goodreads and Facebook. Not sure if I'll continue using this blog though. But what I have learned by doing all the activities, will be very useful for myself and also will promote to my customers. And web 2.0 I think wasn't as long as the previous one? Fits in better with everyone's workloads as well.

Week 6 : Facebook - playing nicely with others

So the last one Facebook. I already have account with facebook but I haven't used it for a while. My daughter have a account with the facebook and she use it all the time and We keep in contact with our families overseas through facerbook. When I logged on my facebook account then I found out I have request from 47 people to be friends. For doing this exercise I have sent a request to one colleague and also have liked Manukau Library Page. I looked at the pages of few other libraries, and found they generally make the updates on events, author talks, reviews etc.
With the facebook we use it to keep in contact with our family & friends overseas.
Public library can put up the events, news and book reviews to share with public.
I found it very easy to use and I will continue to use it. Sometime customers have asked me about it whether it is free or not.
Since Manukau libraries are doing many events and Programmes in the library for community and it will be very useful for our customers to know everything what's happening in the libraries.
I will recommend it to my customers as well.

Week 5 : Music files and mp3s

To do this exercise, I chose one of the free MP3 download website from the Manukau Libraries web 2.0 blog site

www.ez-tracks.com/ and I looked through the website. This site allows you to download popular and current free MP3 music files but you have to register on the site first. Then there were 50 Music genre were there and I chose one of them. I have downloaded the one. It is a great service for the customers if they want to know the free MP3 Music sites .

Week 4 : Books and social networking

I found this exercise quite useful.Goodreads is very good for Reader Advisory purpose. Library staff can share bookreviews and also read other people's reviews. We can vote good books and grab more books to our shelves and will keep in the head books what I want to read yet. People can find people have same reading taste and also It is quite useful social networking site. By reading books and can join bookclub and also help to find more friends.I will recommend to customers and our branch already runs bookclub it will be useful to our customers. And also we can invite more customers to come and join us.

Week 3 : Twitter - micro-blogging at a glance

I really enjoyed doing this exercise. When I signed up on Twitter and searched for Manukau libraries Twitter I was able to see how other people tweeted on the Twitter. How People leave their Book Reviews and Hey! Why not Manukau Libraries have Twitter account set up for our community and We can promote through our brochures and It's great way we can share people online what's happening in the libraries and people can send us comments about their library experience. Even customer can share their Reviews.

Week 2 : Zamzar Creating file formats

I found this week's activity very intersting. I think I really want to do this exercise for myself as well as for the customers. I came across in my past when I wanted to change Pdf file I got stuck but I know now through Zamzar (Free online file conversion) website I wouldn't have any problem. It is also quite common enquiry by customers using computers and it is easy as well. I think same will feel customers as it is so straightforward. I will definitely show that to my children. But one thing I just want to ask about it? Does it work for the scanned documents.

Week 1 : Blogger

First I thought I will use blog what I have already but thought why not create new one. I used my old gmail account though it took some time for me to figure out the password which I had forgotten. I have created new blog because I will learn some new things and will create the one which I can share with people. In our branch we always share book reviews in our staff meeting, I think If our library can have one blog which we can use to share our experience of reading what we are doing. It is good for our reader advisory skill. We can even share reviews with our customers
